A Wisconsin music teacher was arrested after authorities began investigating alleged inappropriate conduct involving a student that reportedly took place seven years ago, police said.

Halla Nelson, 34, is a music educator at Badger Ridge Middle School and Core Knowledge Charter School.
Verona Police arrested the teacher on Friday, authorities said.
Nelson was booked into the Dane County Jail on one count of sexual assault of a child by school staff member, police said.
The alleged conduct under investigation dates all the way back to 2019, according to authorities.
The Verona Area School District said it only became aware of the allegation on Aug. 30, 2026. Nelson was immediately placed on leave, district officials said.

The educator was then suspended without pay the following day, according to the district.
The allegation does not involve a current student, district officials said.
Police have not released details about exactly what allegedly happened, investigators said.
Authorities have also not released the age of the student at the time, police said. Officials have not explained why the allegation surfaced seven years later, according to investigators.
The school district is conducting a separate employment investigation into Nelson, officials said.
The criminal investigation remains open, police said.
Nelson is accused, not convicted, records show.
